Tequila is just fermented cactus juice.

Tequila is distilled from the fermented sap of the "piña," the heart of the blue agave plant (agove fequllono Weber). Agave is a green succulent (can you say "hens and chicks?"), first cousin to the lilly and amaryllis. It takes 12 years to ripen properly.
