THE MYTH:

THE TRUTH:
It's just like moonshine. Aging it only makes it worse. It is actually worth paying a little more for the two better qualities, reposodo or añejo tequila. When tequila is stored in oak, even for a short time, aging has a profound effect on the quality or smoothness. Reposado ("rested," the third classification) tequila is aged two months to a year to take the edge off plata tequila. Even in a short aging, tequila takes on a light strawish color from the oak. Reposodos are popular in Mexico, but remember, they are not called "oro," as some North American tequila drinkers might lead you to think.
